Bodhgaya is a place where Buddha spent his last days as a monk. His life is portrayed in the Mahabharata, a Sanskrit epic poem written by Ved Vyasa, which tells how he renounced his wealth and status to seek enlightenment under the Bo Tree on Mount Meru. He achieved full enlightenment there and became known as Siddhartha Gautama – "One who has gone to the forest", meaning someone who lives in harmony with nature rather than exploiting it for profit or pleasure. The journey from princely palace to hermit's cave was one of self-discovery and spiritual transformation for him, but it also had great significance for all of humanity because he gave us an example of what we can achieve through willpower alone (without any external support).

Bodhgaya

Bodhgaya is a holy town located in the Indian state of Bihar. The town is a popular Buddhist pilgrimage site, especially for followers of the Mahayana and Vajrayana schools of Buddhism. It was here that Gautama Buddha achieved enlightenment under what Buddhists believe to be a tree called Bodhi Tree (Sanskrit: "Tree of Enlightenment").

The Bodhi Trees are said to have been planted by King Ashoka about 1,600 years ago when he visited this place after conquering Kalinga in India. The most famous one stands today at Jetavana Park, which also has caves where monks resided during their visits to Bodhgaya

The most famous cave is the Amrattha Cave, which was once occupied by Gautama Buddha himself. It is said that the great master spent three months meditating in this cave after attaining enlightenment while sitting under a sacred Bodhi Tree.

Gaya

Rajgir was an important place for Buddhist pilgrimage where Buddha attained enlightenment under bodhi tree (Buddhist name for this tree).

It is believed that the name of the city was derived from Rajgriha, which literally means “the place where kings reside”. The ancient site of Nalanda is located nearby, and was a center of learning from the fifth century CE to 1197 CE.

In the present day, Rajgir is an important place of pilgrimage for Jains and Hindus. It has been mentioned in some of the earliest Indian literature, including Rigveda, Mahabharata and Ramayana.

Nalanda

Nalanda is a Buddhist monastery located at the site of an ancient university in Rajgir, district Nalanda, Bihar. It was an important center of learning in ancient India and one of the most famous universities in Asia along with Takshashila and Taxila.

Nalanda was established by King Bakhtibarhshtra I, who ruled from 458 BC to 436 BC (the initial life span of Buddhism). He built two monasteries at this location – one for monks and another for nuns, who were special students from other countries such as Kalinga (today's Odisha) or Gandhara region

Rajgir is famous for its association with Lord Buddha. It was also the capital city of Magadha Empire, which was established by Bimbisara, the father of Ajatashatru. The Jain religion had its origins in Rajgir with Parshvanatha, the 23rd Tirthankara (Jainism) born here. Today it is one of the most important places of pilgrimage for Jains and Hindus. Rajgir has been a hub for trade and commerce since ancient time due to its location on major trade routes between North India and South India via Banaras (Varanasi)(today's Pakistan). The ancient university was destroyed by the Huns in 1193 AD. According to historical records, Nalanda University had more than 10,000 students and 2,000 teachers at its peak. It also attracted students from China, Japan and Korea during its heyday..

Patna

Patna is the capital of Bihar and also known as Nawadastan. It’s a city on the banks of river Ganges that was founded by Magadh King Kanishka in 647 AD. The city has been home to many rulers, including Ashoka, Bakhtiyar Khilji and Humayun before it became an important centre for trade during British rule in India.

Patna is one of India's oldest cities with archaeological finds dating back to more than 40000 years ago! In fact, this settlement was once thought to be part of Harrapa (caused by natural erosion), so archaeologists were surprised when they found out it actually dated back further than previously thought!

Patna is also known as the “city of temples” with more than 50 Hindu, Jain and Buddhist temples located within its boundaries. The city is also home to many important monuments, including Golghar (a well-known grain storage building), Gandhi Setu (the longest river bridge in India), Patna Museum and Lal Darwaza Masjid.
